Fairtrade

Leckhampton Parish Church

Fairtrade is a system of certification that aims to ensure a set of standards are met in the production and supply of a product or ingredient. For farmers and workers, Fairtrade means workers’ rights, safer working conditions and fairer pay. For shoppers it means high quality, ethically produced products.

Choosing Fairtrade means standing with farmers for fairness and equality, against some of the biggest challenges the world faces. It means farmers creating change, from investing in climate friendly farming techniques to developing women in leadership.

With Fairtrade you change the world a little bit every day. Through simple shopping choices you are showing businesses and governments that you believe in fair and just trade.

Fairtrade Shea Butter

The growth of Fairtrade shea butter in West Africa means more women entrepreneurs upping their income, investing in their communities and coming together to stand up for women’s rights.  Shea butter is an ingredient in many everyday beauty, wellness and cosmetic products, including sunscreen, lipstick and soaps, so there’s opportunities for all sorts of companies to be part of this story.

Can you ask your favourite beauty brand to start using Fairtrade shea butter?

‘Tag’ the brand on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter to invite them to make their product even more ethical! Not sure how to ‘tag’ or not on social media? Visit the Fairtrade Foundation webpage to find out how to get involved.

Ten Good Value Choices

With the prices of essentials going up, it’s those earning the least suffering most. That’s true here in the UK, and it’s true for the people overseas growing so much of what we eat and drink.

These 10 good value Fairtrade choices show Fairtrade doesn’t have to cost us more. But each one of these choices means a fairer deal for the farmers and workers behind that product.

Fairtrade Fortnight

27 February to 12 March 2023

For two weeks each year at the end of February and start of March, thousands of individuals, companies and groups across the UK come together to share the stories of the people who grow our food and drinks, mine our gold and who grow the cotton in our clothes, people who are often exploited and underpaid.

This Fairtrade Fortnight, join us in spreading a simple message: making the small switch to Fairtrade supports producers in protecting the future of some of our most-loved food and the planet.

Did you know?
Coffee, bananas and chocolate could soon be much more difficult to buy.

Climate change is making crops like these harder and harder to grow. Combined with deeply unfair trade, communities growing these crops are being pushed to the brink.

But here’s the good news.

More people choosing Fairtrade means extra income, power and support for those communities.

By making the small switch to Fairtrade, we can all support producers in protecting the future of some of our most-loved food and the planet.
