SHOEBOX APPEAL UPDATE

This Christmas, Link to Hope delivered a staggering total of 25,281 shoeboxes across eastern Europe! Thanks to all who donated this year. You can read how they were delivered, and see some of the people who received them, at linktohope.co.uk/shoebox-delivery-diary-2025. Take a look and see what difference you made!

From the U3A in Winchcombe
Deadline: Sun 1st Feb

The main depot for sorting and distributing the aid we send to the Ukraine via BristolAid4Ukraine was wiped out by a Drone attack at Christmas and the aid stored there lost. Your help is needed urgently to enable the charity to continue giving aid to the two local hospitals and the children’s centre.
As always the appeal is very specific; this simplifies the vans getting through customs. Please also be very specific in your donations as per the following list:

  • Single bed size sheets new or in good condition. Larger sized sheets must be cut up; please save time and donate the requested size.
  • Towels – new or in good condition.
  • Dried Food: pasta, rice, grains, flour, dried soup mixes: Check out the ‘World Food’s shelf in the supermarkets for cheaper packets in larger sizes.
  • Medicines: Pain killers, Bandages + support aids for wrists, knees or ankles.
  • Candles + wax: new or old, damaged, stubs, broken – It does not matter. Prefer NOT perfumed and not in containers. It is all melted down to make small stoves & heaters with new wicks in Food Tins (it is –15 degrees there). Amazon sells bags of wax bits if you have no candles.

Sat 7th Feb, 7pm @ P&J

To coincide with the visit of Revd Fadi Diab from St. Andrew’s Church, Ramallah, there is an opportunity for people from different faiths and community backgrounds to gather around a shared table, to enjoy food and fellowship, and to express together our shared longing for peace, justice, and love for all the children of God. Please let the Parish Office know if you wish to attend by 22nd January.

Thursday 26th February, 7.30pm at St. Peter’s Church

This year’s Team Lent Talk will be given by Revd Catherine Lomas on the ‘Icons of Lent’. Catherine is an ordained Anglican priest who now works as an iconographer. She will be speaking about icons as a source of light in the darkness and how they invite us into the presence of Christ, made real in our midst.
